The Western Harbour Advisory Group

The Council is committed to making sure the voice of all communities are heard throughout the project. To facilitate this, a refresh of the Western Harbour Advisory Group (WHAG) will build a communication channel between Bristol City Council’s project team and the city.

The group will:

  • Champion, inspire and challenge different elements of the vision
  • Proactively bring ideas and insight to the table
  • Give a steer on the overall direction of the project
  • Be a sounding board for the project as it goes forwards
  • Show willing to learn about the area and the existing community, the reasons for the project, and the considerations affecting it and emerging issues through master planning process
  • Share information with the wider community

Their input will sit alongside that of that of a range of other information sources that will be gathered as the project progresses, from technical experts, to councillors and statutory consultees such as Historic England and wider community engagement.

Who will be on the group

We’re looking to run an open application process in the New Year to find around 16 people who can bring in-depth knowledge to the project relating to four themes distilled from the vision – Culture, Community, Environment and Economy and who can connect with communities to bring them into the conversation.

Ongoing conversations

Engagement with people in the city will happen throughout this masterplanning stage and beyond, linked to specific questions that the design team will have. The principles behind this engagement will be worked through with the refreshed group when it is established.
